Barsana Photo Tour 2023
27 Feb – 02 Mar, 2023 (4D/3N)
Holi is a Hindu spring festival, celebrated widely throughout India and around the world. One of the most vibrant and beloved of these celebrations is the Barsana Holi Festival, which takes place in the town of Barsana in northern India. During the festival, people gather in the streets, singing and dancing, throwing colored powder and water on each other in celebration. The festival is a joyous and vibrant occasion, with people of all ages taking part. It is a time to bring people together, to celebrate the coming of spring and to show love and respect for each other.
Latthmaar Holi is a unique form of the Holi celebration, which takes place in Barsana. The festival involves men from the neighbouring village of Nandgaon visiting Barsana and playing a special game with the women of the village. The men, who are known as Lathmaars, carry long wooden sticks, or ‘lathis’, and attempt to hit the women who are protecting a pot of buttermilk. The women use the lathis to defend themselves, in a playful and fun way. The game is an exciting and energetic part of the Holi festivities, and it is seen as a way of expressing love and respect between the two communities.
Lathmar Holi (Holi of sticks) is a Hindu festival celebrated in the twin towns of Barsana and Nandgaon, also known as the towns of Radha and Krishna respectively. Every year, thousands of people come to Barsana to take part in this colourful and joyous festival. It is celebrated by men and women dressed in traditional attire, who use long sticks (Latth) to playfully beat mens. The festival is a great way to experience the culture and vibrancy of Barsana.
